Since Mojang explained that the features in the update are nearing completion, it seems likely that we will see the new version launch a year after the latest version, which should be around the summer of 2023. Minecraft 1.20 should be out sometime in 2023, though Mojang hasn't given a specific date. Along with that comes adventures with camels and archaeologists. New content and features in update 1.20 will focus on new construction, new blocks, and new bookshelves. What Minecraft community Mojang has said is that the themes of update 1.20 are "self-expression, creativity and intrinsic motivation". Mojang recently said that they've also learned from introducing features too early, leaving players frustrated when things change during development or those content get pushed back into the future.
